Apprentice Success Story

After two years of college, Zach Kornak decided to pursue an apprenticeship that would allow him to work outdoors with his hands. He enrolled in electrical courses at Jackson College, complemented by fitness and health classes. The training program required two single-day climbs and a three-day climb clinic, followed by a performance test at the end of the third day. Upon passing this test, Zach was scheduled for an eleven-week climb school, which included classroom instruction and hands-on training. With support from Michigan Works! Southeast, he successfully completed his training at Jackson College through MiLEAP and WIOA Adult funding. The apprenticeship program at Consumers Energy comprises four distinct steps or levels, each with its own set of requirements. Zach diligently completed these steps and, after four years of hard work and dedication, he was offered the opportunity to become a Lineman Apprentice. This achievement marks a significant milestone in his career, and he is thrilled to have achieved his goal.
