Local Talent Development Leader Shanell Shelby Honored by Michigan Works! Association
LANSING, Mich. (Sep 16, 2020) – Shanell Shelby of Oakland County Michigan Works! was awarded a “Shining Star” Award by the Michigan Works! Association for her efforts to meet employment needs in Oakland county. Shelby recently received the award during the Association’s annual conference.
Shelby is a tremendous asset to the workforce development system both locally and across county lines.
“Shanell is passionate about her work, the Pontiac community, and creating equal opportunities for all,” said Luann Dunsford, chief executive officer of the Michigan Works! Association. “She is a rising star in Oakland County and inspires her staff and community.”
Shelby has a reputation for going above and beyond to assist her clients, treating each one with care and respect.
“Shanell is truly a Shining Star for us, managing our office in Pontiac with the most diverse and concentrated population of job seekers in Oakland County,” said Jennifer Llewellyn, director, Oakland County Michigan Works!. “Under her leadership, her team has helped thousands of people gain employment, as well as supported the workforce development needs of a broad range of employers across the area. Shanell does this with professionalism and enthusiasm, with a smile on her face each day.”
Shelby said she is honored to receive this award.
“I am honored and humbled to be a Shining Star award recipient; however, I can only shine as bright as my team,” said Shelby. “Nelson Mandela said it is better to lead from behind and to put other in front, especially when you celebrate victory. My goal is to continue the journey to help move forward workforce development services in the community and the City of Pontiac.”
