Conference Features Mixing the Economic Development Cocktail: Combining Resources to Create Wealth Presented by Dr. Julie M. Norman, this workshop encourages attendees to discover the wide variety of resources that can be blended to help recruit new businesses and expand existing ones. The essential mixology skills needed for dealing with state, regional and local economic development groups will be presented. Warning: traditional concepts may be shaken, not stirred. Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Presented by the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Bureau of Workforce Transformation staff, this session provides a review of and updates on the 2008 TAA Statewide Training. Topics include file maintenance for data validation, an examination of TAA data validation elements, acceptable source documentation, TAA training waivers, state and federal file requirements and more. Jobs, Education & Training (JET)/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Update This training offers an overview on the development and focus of JET, as well as the impact of the Budget Reconciliation Bill of 2006 that reauthorized TANF. Various scenarios will be presented that may inspire creative ways of meeting Federal participation requirements for individual participants, and attendees will learn changes to JET as a result of finalizing of TANF regulations. Group Case Management Increasing caseloads makes it difficult to provide quality case management services to participants in individualized settings. Dr. Beverly Ford presents pragmatic ideas, and teaches attendees how to use groups to help reinforce employment expectations through peer pressure and expand participants' support network. Featured Presenters Washington insider and partner with Moss, McGee, Bradley, and Colbert, David Bradley utilizes his expert knowledge to deliver an up-to-date overview of workforce development legislative activity at the federal level. Opening Session: Stedman Graham, Chairman and CEO of S. Graham & Associates, opens our conference with “You Can Make It Happen - Leadership Development," a leadership focus of the Nine-Step Success Process™. Graham uses the process to show attendees how to understand who they are, develop a vision for their lives, and provide a continuous approach for growth, learning and maximizing personal and professional potential. Closing Session: Often referred to as The Gen Y Guy™, Jason Dorsey is a bestselling author, acclaimed speaker, and award-winning entrepreneur. During the closing address, Dorsey will help us learn what Generation Y covets at work, and why. He will reveal specific actions and approaches that business professionals can immediately adopt to unlock the talent, loyalty, and teamwork of this emerging workforce.
