This transformational workshop, based on the book Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities, provides key lessons in dealing with individuals that come from poverty. By examining actual experiences of generational poverty, attendees learn to address customers based on a shared and accurate mental model of poverty.
Topics include differences in economic cultures, how those differences affect opportunities for success, enhancing services to clients, including developing an action plan to improve services to clients, and improving retention rates for new hires from poverty.

Presented By: Terie Dreussi-Smith, a former public school teacher, is a co-author of Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals, and Communities.
Dreussi-Smith served as supervisor of prevention services at a community alcohol and drug treatment and prevention organization for over nine years. She was instrumental in the organization’s redesign of prevention and early intervention programs and services serving clients from generational poverty. Additionally, she served as adjunct faculty for a number of colleges that focused on empowering adult students who were transitioning out of poverty.
In her recent work as a grant writer and social program manager, Dreussi-Smith assisted communities in embedding concepts from Bridges Out of Poverty during a redesign of policies and services for families and youth in generational poverty.
