Meet Bobbi

In 2004 Bobbi had job that provided security, a great income, insurance and paid vacation. However, her son has severe medical problems and had had seven major spinal surgeries.

While rushing her son to the ER one day in 2005, she received a call from her boss who gave her a deadline to return to work or be fired. Bobbi had already used her vacation time and all of the Family and Medical Leave Act time allowed for her son’s medical condition.

On October 2, 2 days after her son’s 8th major surgery, she was fired.

Bobbi contacted Michigan Works! West Central where she received funding for the training needed to become a self-employed pet groomer. She attended Paragon Pet Grooming School in Grand Rapids and successfully completed her Certification in Pet Grooming in August 2005.

Bobbi has successfully run her pet grooming business for almost 6 years now has three full-time and five part-time employees.

She is grateful for having the opportunity to be a part of Michigan Works! and all the support she has received from the staff.
